Republicans Oppose Reconciliation
House Agriculture Committee Republicans pressed Chair Scott (D-GA) to abandon the panel’s reconciliation markup scheduled for this Friday, September 10th urging for a return to bipartisan collaboration in a letter sent over the weekend. Per their letter, “it seems as though the days we come together for the common good of rural America are now few and far between.” Additionally, the Senate Finance Committee’s GOP members similarly sent a letter on Tuesday, September 7th to the panel’s top Democrats voicing complaints about a partisan process that could restrict amendments and debate. Per their letter, “failure to hold a full, open markup, as our House Ways and Means and Energy and Commerce Committee counterparts are doing, would amount to a massive and unfortunate concession to the House, as well as to Congressional leadership.”
