This Week in Congress

This week, Congress returned for their lame duck session with both chambers holding leadership elections.  The formal vote for speaker will occur on January 3, 2023.  The Senate voted on legislation providing federal recognition of same-sex marriages.  Both chambers began finalizing the FY23 budget, along with considering a deal to suspend or raise the debt ceiling and advanced bipartisan legislation to expand access to retirement saving options.
