This Week in Congress
This week, the Senate held nomination votes and the chamber was minus three members with Sen. McConnell (R-KY) recovering from a concussion, Sen. Fetterman (D-PA) receiving inpatient treatment for depression, and Sen. Feinstein (D-CA) recovering at home from shingles. The House was not in session this week.
Per Axios Markets, “The number of construction job openings plunged by 240,000, or nearly 50%, to 248,000 in January compared to December, according to government data out Wednesday. The sharp decline in construction job openings combined with the downturn in the investment in residential construction suggest that the economy is still adjusting to the big rate hikes of 2022, which could set the stage for the Federal Reserve Bank to accidentally over-hike, generating the hard economic landing many had been hoping to avoid.”
