This Week in Congress

This week, the House and Senate returned for a quick four-day work schedule and recessed on July 11th for the Republican convention in Milwaukee, then they will reconvene on July 22nd.  Additionally, the House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittees continued to consider FY25 spending bills.

Tuesday was a big day for economic policy on Capitol Hill. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen gave her annual testimony to the House Financial Services Committee on the state of the international financial system. Fed Chair Powell gave his semiannual report to the Senate Banking Committee and the Senate Budget Committee heard from Congressional Budget Office Director Phillip Swagel.  Also on Wednesday, the House Oversight Committee held a hearing on Environmental Protection Agency oversight, with Administrator Michael Regan testifying.
