This Week in Congress
This week, Congress returned for a two-week sprint before the August recess. The House voted on a series of Fiscal Year 2025 spending bills, including Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies; Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies; Financial Services and General Government; and Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies. On Monday, the House Oversight Committee heard from Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle regarding the attempted assassination of former President Trump and the House Homeland Security Committee visited the site of the shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania. The Senate held one nomination vote, along with finalizing their FY25 funding bills. On Sunday, President Biden announced that he will not seek re-election, which places the Democratic Party in uncharted territory, with only four weeks before delegates are due to hold their national convention in Chicago.
