This Week in Congress
This week in Congress, the House voted on three resolutions brought under the Congressional Review Act to disapprove of regulations issued in the last months of the Biden administration. Specifically, the resolutions would overturn an EPA regulation relating to rubber tire air pollutant requirements (H.J.Res. 61), a Department of Energy regulation relating to appliance energy efficiency certifications (H.J.Res. 42), and a Bureau of Ocean Energy Management rule relating to offshore oil and gas archaeology reports (S.J.Res. 11). Additionally, the House voted on legislation (H.R. 872) that would require federal contractors to adopt updated cybersecurity vulnerability disclosure procedures, and a bill (H.R. 919) that would allow an expanded range of preventative treatments for chronic diseases to be covered under high-deductible health plans paired with health savings accounts. The Senate voted on the nomination of Linda McMahon to lead the Department of Education and Lori Chavez-DeRemer to be the Secretary of Labor. Additionally, the Chamber considered legislation that would bar transgender athletes from participating in women’s school sports (S. 9), but that measure did not pass the 60-vote procedural threshold to move to a vote on the bill itself.
