ASA Prepares for the Return of Their D.C. Fly-In
Next week, ASA will be advocating on Capitol Hill to ensure the voices of subcontractors, who makeup the three-fourths of the construction industry, are heard throughout the halls of Congress. We are expecting over forty ASA members from around the country to attend this year’s fly-in, who will be meeting with 28 Senate offices and 21 House offices. During our welcome reception and dinner, we will be hearing remarks from Rep. Stauber (R-MN), the co-chair of the Congressional Procurement Caucus, and we will be joined by my colleagues from the Construction Industry Procurement Coalition (CIPC). We will be advocating for change order, retainage, workforce development, and permitting reform, proper bid listing opportunities, along with ensuring payment and performance bonds are aligned with public-private partnership projects (P3s) (click here to view the ASA’s 2023 Legislative Priority White Paper). Our fly-in is especially timely as the House Armed Services Committee begins debate on the FY24 National Defense Authorization Act (HR 2670) next week. As previously reported on, this legislation contains procurement-related issues important to the construction industry.
