Hogan Runs for the Senate and Two Additional House Retirements
Former Gov. Hogan (R-MD) launched a surprise bid for the open Maryland Senate seat. Sen. Cardin (D-MD) is not seeking reelection. Per Hogan, “we desperately need leaders willing to stand up to both parties — leaders that appreciate that no one of us has all the answers or all the power, because this is not just about the differences between the right and the left. This is about the difference between right and wrong.” Additionally, Reps. Gallagher (R-WI), a fourth-term member of Congress, and McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) announced they are not seeking re-election. Rep. Gallagher, the 39-year-old former Marine Corps intelligence officer said the decision is personal and that he always planned to treat his service in Congress as "a deployment, not a career.” Rep. McMorris Rodgers did not give a specific reason for her departure except to predict “the best is yet to come.” To date, the House has 43 members not seeking re-election:
