This Week in Congress

This week before departing for the Memorial Day recess, the House considered sweeping legislation to set a regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies, along with two bills to prohibit the Federal Reserve from issuing a central bank digital currency and to block a D.C. law allowing noncitizens to vote in local elections. Additionally, eleven non-controversial bills were passed in the House related to tax relief for individuals receiving disaster assistance, to require inspections of federal prison facilities, and to bar public transit agencies from purchasing railcars from Chinese entities.  The Senate held nomination votes prior to the recess.  Finally, Senate Majority Leader Schumer pledged to bring to the floor soon the bipartisan border-security bill that was torpedoed earlier this year.
