Averting a government shutdown on Friday night was high on Congress’s agenda this week. The House voted on a Congressional Review Act resolution (H.J. Res. 25) to overturn an IRS crypto reporting rule and a bill (H.R. 1156) to extend the statute of limitations for fraud under certain pandemic-era unemployment programs. Additionally, the House voted on nine measures out of the Homeland Security Committee including a bill (H.R. 1166) to bar the Homeland Security Department from procuring batteries manufactured by certain Chinese companies.
The Senate voted 67-32 on the nomination of Lori Chavez-DeRemer to lead the Labor Department, she was the last nominee to lead the 15 executive departments awaiting confirmation. The chamber considered the HALT Fentanyl Act (S. 331), a bill to permanently classify the drug under Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act
